I joined this project because, as a sophomore studying Government here at Georgetown, I am interested in further exploring the intersection between the two disciplines of Government and the Performing Arts. I view theater as a powerful tool with the potential to bring people together—a common ground that can unite others despite differences in backgrounds or beliefs. This unity is something that is vastly lacking in our current political climate, which so often seems to be characterized by extreme polarization and an unwillingness to compromise with anyone deemed as ‘other.’ Performance can act as a tool to lessen this divide by deepening our empathy and understanding for others and their experiences. This is a skill I hope to further cultivate as I "step into others' shoes" over the course of this program.
